SAVE THE DREAMS Contemporary Artists from Bulgaria

The opening of the exhibition of the Bulgarian collection of Imago Mundi will take place on Monday August 31st at Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice http://www.cini.it/ The collection Save the Dreams. Contemporary Artists from Bulgaria will be exhibited alongside the most recent 20 Imago Mundi collections and will remain open, during the period of the Venice Biennale, until the second half of November.

Tsung-tsvang is a term from the world of chess in relation to there being no correct move to be made, no correct way out of a situation.  The current work is a small format canvas made for the Luciano Benetton Collection, Imago Mundi project BULGARIA: SAVE THE DREAMS -  Contemporary Artists from Bulgaria - 2015
The forms pictured in the canvas are derived from drawings made by my daughter, the forms are continued on the flip side of the canvas much in the same way that she would draw her designs across various pamphlets and papers that may be laying about. included in  the inset of the back of the canvas is a small sample of her work.

New energies that emerge, progress, intersect, collide. Imago Mundi showcases the contemporary art of Bulgaria, eastern gate of the Balkan Peninsula and link between East and West, Europe and Asia Minor, the Danube and the Black Sea, traditionally a place of transit and of extraordinary cultural heterogeneity. Over 140 works of art that reflect the creative fervour and the imaginative, ironic, joyous and sometimes desperate Bulgarian identity that is currently under construction. A collection that brings together artists of different generations and with contrasting aesthetic ideas, painters with a classical approach to the canvas and contemporary artists for whom the canvas is merely a tool. Artists living in Bulgaria or who have left the country, teachers or students for whom the most important thing is freedom of speech and debate.

Bulgaria: Save the Dreams. Contemporary Artists from Bulgaria is anImago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.

Imago Mundi!

DOMINATION

Domination:   site-specific

Concept: Bogdan Aleksandrov

Philosophy
Participants are witness to aggressive human activity in territories taken from nature. These discredited mercenary activities do not correspond to the natural harmonic balance. The consequences unite the two systems in a regime of "striving for domination". Benefiting from natural resources, human activity is hit by the paradox of "natural metaphors" contained in the response of  nature’s own aspirations. We can define them as paradoxes of shifting meaning, which acquire broader visibility by relevant artistic interventions in support of the natural instinct of nature. The act of creative metaphorical intercession helps contribute to search out the unknown values and true solutions of equations with the dynamic variables of today - nature and human intervention.

Argument
In the central city area (the pitch of the barracks existed here in the past) provided for construction of public buildings, a brick chimney rises up from a long obsolete steam plant. Over the years, while the place had been desolate, the chimney has been overgrown with creepers using it as a  "road" to the light above. Time and nature have changed the sign / direction of its symbolic perception and this in turn is conducive to the possibility for artistic intervention and conceptual transformation presented as metaphor.

Way to realization
At the top of the chimney ,in a circle, bamboo stalks will be installed with a specified length.
The selected diameter of the material will allow for the free addition in the internal cavities of the stalk (telescopic principle) with several other pieces of bamboo with progressively enlarged lengths. The trellis once installed on the site will carry the plant naturally to the next segment of "bamboo telescope" the plant will pull itself up with its own growth. Change will happen slowly, over several seasons, and will be documented by photo and video capture.

Result
Specific (artistic) intervention will catalyze the conceptual and factual domination of the natural element in (bio) environment. This active intervention will lead to a metaphorical Commensalism; successfully, a negative symbol will be transformed into a "host". The project will be realized by visual artists with a keen interest in alternative media and the idea of inclusion and research in the creative process. The process will be documented visually and presented in a gallery environment.
